ABOUT VAGINAL STEAMING

From menstruation, sexual intercourse, childbirth, changing hormones, and pelvic floor issues, there are many things that can cause pain and discomfort to the vaginal area.The vagina is an extremely intimate area that withstands a lot. I believe we should acknowledge the work of our womb with nourishing vaginal steams. 

Vaginal steaming, also known as v-steaming or yoni steaming, is an ancient healing practice that has been used by Mayan, Native American, Asian, and other cultures throughout the years for centuries. It is a natural way to cleanse the uterus, release toxins and old residue. 

vaginal steams/ yoni steams are ph balanced to help the body naturally cleanse the vaginal and uterine linings in a safe and gentle way. The warm steam and natural oils from the herbs nourish and tonify the vulva and uterine tissues.

BENEFITS OF VAGINAL STEAMING

While vaginal steaming is typically used during postpartum care, it can help other gynecological issues including polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, menopause, premenstrual syndrome (PMS), cysts, and yeast infections. Some of the many benefits of this practice include:

  • Increases circulation to vaginal tissues and pelvic floor

  • Helps clear congested blood to improve menstrual flow and regulate periods

  • Decreases uncomfortable period cramping

  • Reduction of PMS

  • Help restore bacterial and pH balance to aid in prevention of infections, bacterial vaginosis and odors

  • Decrease of menstrual flow as well as the reduction of dark purple or brown blood at the onset or end of menses

  • Regulation of irregular or absent menstrual cycles 

  • Regulation of short menstrual cycle

  • Increased fertility

  • Tightens vaginal canal

  • Faster healing and toning of the reproductive system following childbirth

  • Assisting in healing symptoms of uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, uterine weakness, uterine prolapse and endometriosis

  • Breaking down of reproductive adhesion/scar tissue. Assisting with the repair of a vaginal tear, episiotomy or C-section scar. Assisting with the healing of haemorrhoids

  • Treating chronic bacterial/ yeast vaginal infections and maintaining healthy vaginal odour

  • Relief of menopause symptoms such as vaginal dryness and pain during sex

  • Detoxification of the womb/removal of toxins from the body. Release of stored emotions

WHAT IF I HAVE AN IUD? IS IT SAFE TO USE?

If you have an Intrauterine Device (IUD), steam at your own risk. In rare occasions the steam has been said to dislodge the IUD.  With that being said, I have the paragaurd IUD and didn't experience any complications.

ROSEMARY

Increases circulation to reproductive organs.

LAVENDER

Anticeptic

One of the most relaxing herbs, calms the mind and body. Nourishing to the nervous system. It is antiseptic to the vaginal tissues. It is also an antispasmodic, aiding in healthy uterine function.

RASPBERRY LEAF

Anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-microbia

Is useful for vaginal dryness and overall health. Red raspberry is a for women post-partum to restore balance and health to the reproductive organs.

ROSE PETALS

Tightening

Are gentle and astringent to tissues of the genitals. Rose is a relaxing and uplifting herb.

CALENDULA 

Anti-inflammatory

This is used to induce perspiration and cleansing of the vaginal tissues. It is also healing to wounds and aids in the healing of tight scarred tissues of the of the labia. Note: please do not steam an open wound, this could cause pain and swelling. Also used to relieve menstrual cramps, heal hemorrhoids, calms muscles, alleviates hot flashes, as well as anti-fungal properties.

YARROW

Astrigent

Astrigent , tonifying and cleansing herb, yarrow is great for regulating menstrual flow, ovarian cysts and supporting overall uterine health.

MOTHERWORT

Tonifies, cramping, infections

Astrigent, tonifying and cleansing, motherwort strengthens and relaxes uterine muscles, eases uterine cramping and may help with uterine fibroids. Also stimulates uterine tone.

DIRECTIONS FOR YOUR DIY V-STEAM

You will need: 2 large big towel, two pillows, 4 cups of water in 1 medium stainless steel pot,socks on, and a blanket to wrap around yourself.


Step 

  1. Bring water to a soft boil for 5 minutes. Add 1 package of herbs once your water has reached a boil. 

  2. Turn off the heat, leave the lid on, and steep for another 5 minutes with the lid on.

  3. It is very important to test the temperature of the steam before using it. 

  4. Remove your underwear and sit on your stool above the steaming water.

  5. Drape a large blanket. Make sure you keep yourself warm, be sure to wear your socks.


Please note: this can temporarily increase menstrual flow with more dark fluids or debris. Menses may start earlier than usual due to the cleansing effect.
